Effects of Powdery Mildew and Water Stress on CO(2) Exchange in Uninfected Leaves of Barley.

چکیده
Net photosynthesis is stimulated in third seedling leaves of barley plants whose lower two leaves are heavily infected by Erysiphe graminis f.sp. hordei Marchal. Stimulation is greater in water-stressed than in well-watered plants. In stressed, but not in well-watered plants, stimulation is associated with the maintenance of high leaf water potential and high leaf conductance. A small part of the changes in net photosynthesis is attributable to changes in respiratory metabolism in the third leaf, and other possible causes are discussed.

Ectopic expression of constitutively activated RACB in barley enhances susceptibility to powdery mildew and abiotic stress.
Small RAC/ROP-family G proteins regulate development and stress responses in plants. Transient overexpression and RNA interference experiments suggested that the barley (Hordeum vulgare) RAC/ROP protein RACB is involved in susceptibility to the powdery mildew fungus Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei. We created transgenic barley plants expressing the constitutively activated RACB mutant racb-G15V...
متن کاملAssociation analysis for traits associated with powdery mildew tolerance in barley [Hordeum vulgare L.] using AFLP markers
Association analysis is a useful method for evaluation of significant association between molecular marker and phenotype of trait. This study was performed to evaluate association between traits related with powdery mildew resistance and molecular markers. This investigation was performed using 77 barley genotypes and AFLP markers. In phenotypic evaluation, reaction of seedlings to powdery mild...
متن کاملGramine increase associated with rapid and transient systemic resistance in barley seedlings induced by mechanical and biological stresses.
Systemic acquired resistance (SAR) is one of the intriguing issues for studying the mechanism in signal transduction system in a whole plant. We found that SAR and increase of an antifungal compound were induced rapidly and transiently in barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Goseshikoku) by mechanical and biological stresses. One of the major antifungal compounds was identified as an indole alkaloid,...
متن کاملAltered Expression of Genes Implicated in Xylan Biosynthesis Affects Penetration Resistance against Powdery Mildew
Heteroxylan has recently been identified as an important component of papillae, which are formed during powdery mildew infection of barley leaves. Deposition of heteroxylan near the sites of attempted fungal penetration in the epidermal cell wall is believed to enhance the physical resistance to the fungal penetration peg and hence to improve pre-invasion resistance. Several glycosyltransferase...
متن کاملAntagonistic control of powdery mildew host cell entry by barley calcium-dependent protein kinases (CDPKs).
Calcium-dependent protein kinases (CDPKs) are known to play pivotal roles in intracellular signaling during abiotic and biotic stress responses. To unravel potential functions of CDPKs in the course of barley (Hordeum vulgare)-powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis) interactions, we systematically analyzed the HvCDPK gene family. We found that, according to the existence of respective expressed sequ...
